How to Organize Bathing Suits (Neat & Tidy)

How to Organize Bathing Suits

Some people only own one swimsuit, others have enough to fill a wardrobe with. If you plan on going on week-long vacations or even longer, then it’s a good idea to have a few spare ones so that you can always wear a fresh, clean swimsuit while waiting to wash and dry the ones you wore earlier. The problem with this is, when you’re not traveling, what are you going to do with all of your extra bikinis and one piece swimsuits?

No matter how many swimsuits you own, bathing suits deserve to be treated properly. They are delicates, after all, so you need to treat them delicately if you want them to last more than a single summer. Believe it or not, it’s not just wear and tear that can cause them to deteriorate, but improperly storing them can also accelerate this process. You must learn how to store them properly to help them maintain their shape and form for as long as possible.

Learning how to organize bathing suits is a headache initially, but it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. You can store your bathing suits in a decorative box, drawer, closet, or dedicated swim bag. Prior to storing, you should fold them neatly; make sure they are NOT scrunched up otherwise they will become wrinkled. Do not place anything heavy or sharp on or near your bathing suits, make sure the storage space is cool and dry, and make sure you wash and dry them thoroughly before storing them.

In this article, we will go over the best ways you can organize your swimsuits as you store them for winter. By following our tips, you can easily locate all of your bathing suits and never have to worry about them wrinkling.

Getting started

Before you organize your swimwear, you need to first gather all of your beachwear and accessories. If you have a lot of stuff, this is necessary for you to properly plan how you can maximize your space and not get blindsided by the appearance of even more swimwear and accessories later. Gather all of the following:

  • Bathing suits
  • Beach footwear
  • Cover-ups
  • Goggles, masks
  • Towels
  • Lotions
  • Etc.

Once you have everything laid out in front of you, it’s time to determine which storage method is best for you. If you don’t have a lot of stuff, a swim bag or decorative box will suffice. If you have a lot of stuff, then you might need to dedicate a closet or drawer to your bathing suits and beach accessories.

This is very self-explanatory; simply roll your bathing suits up (folding can cause them to wrinkle where they are folded) and tuck them into your swim bag. Try to keep your delicates separate from any hard plastics, like goggles or snorkels, because they can cause your swimwear to wrinkle. Store the swim bag itself in a cool and dry location, preferably out of direct sunlight.

Decorative box

  • The storage basket with 2 soft rope handles can support a weight of up to 30 pounds.
  • Thick fabric storage boxes with lids reinforced with heavy-duty boards.
  • Made of polyester blend with bamboo style design

Instead of a swim bag, you can opt for a decorative box. This option is great if you don’t want to have a swim bag taking up space in a cabinet or closet, why not hide your beach gear in plain sight? With a decorative box, it can serve as both a storage space and a piece of home decor.

Even if you have a lot of stuff, you can just get multiple boxes, so storage space should not be an issue. Then, it’s just a matter of figuring out where you want to place them around your home to spruce it up.

Drawer

If you have a dozen or more swimsuits, you may need to dedicate an entire drawer just for your swimsuits. You could just place your neatly folded swimwear in there and call it a day, or you can organize it even further.

For instance, you could get multiple organizer bags. Each swim bag is dedicated to storing something, such as all of your super stringy bikini tops and bottoms, or all of your lotions, or your footwear.

Closet

  • This is one pack, dual side with 24 packets item, including 8 bra pockets and 16 underwear pockets

Don’t have enough drawer space? Prefer to hang your swimwear up instead? Then the closet is the best option for you. For organization purposes, I highly recommend you buy an organizer that can hold multiple bikini tops and bottoms rather than just one hanger for each one. This will save you a ton of space and you can still easily find your swimwear at a glance.

Once again, start by taking inventory of your swimwear and sort out which swimsuits you like and which ones you’ve fallen out of love with. If there’s a bathing suit you don’t like, why hang it up? Or if you do hang them up, make sure to separate them from the rest of the swimwear (i.e. place them at an out of the way position and save the prime spots for your best swimwear).

If you have a mix of one pieces and two pieces, you need to divide them up. There are dedicated hangers for bikinis and one pieces, so you can’t use one type for both.

Carve out a section in your closet specifically for your swimsuit hangers. Keep them away from zippers or other abrasive surfaces that might end up rubbing against your swimwear. Otherwise, a jacket zipper might accidentally snag on your bikini top and ruin that beautiful piece. If you don’t have much space for a dedicated section, then at least make sure the clothing next to your swimwear are soft and delicate themselves.

Parting words

I hope that this article has given you some ideas on how to organize your bathing suits. It’s not hard at all, and the more swimsuits you have, the more you will benefit from organizing them. It’s a pain in the butt up front, but it will pay dividends down the line with how much time you are saving and headaches you are avoiding.

You do not need to buy any of these products, but they sure can help with organization. And if you’ve already invested this much money into your bathing suits, a few dollars more won’t hurt. Try these tips out and let me know how they work for you!
